6. 表示時期或距離，這時介詞for可省譯。如：
* For a long time scientists could find little use for the material which remained after the oil had been taken out of petroleum.
科學(xué)家們曾長期不能充分利用石油提煉后的殘留物質(zhì)。
7. 表示讓步，“for all +名詞”結(jié)構(gòu)表示讓步，可譯為“盡管”、“即使”等。如：
* For all its wonderful differences, life on earth is merely an imaginative variation on a single chemical theme.
盡管有種種驚人的差別，地球上的生命不過是在單ー的化學(xué)基礎(chǔ)上進行著富有想象力的變化。
九. from的譯法
1. 表示來源，可譯為“從”、“從……來”等。如：
* Many metals will liberate hydrogen from acids.
許多金屬可以從酸中分離出氫。
2. 表示依據(jù)，可譯為“根據(jù)”。如：
* One can conclude from these observations that charqe, Q，and voltaae, V, are related through some proportionality factor.
根據(jù)觀察可以斷定，電荷Q和電壓V通過某種比例因素相互關(guān)聯(lián)。
3. 表示原料，可譯為“用……（制成)”、“由……（構(gòu)成)”等，或根據(jù)上下文靈活翻譯。如：
* The cutters have very hard teeth made from special steel or from diamonds.
刀具上有用特種鋼或金剛石制造的非常堅硬的刀片。
4. 表示原因和動機，可譯為“因”、“出于”等。如：
* The“weightless”condition of astronauts in orbit about the earth arises from just this cancellation of inertial and gravitational forces.
圍繞地球運轉(zhuǎn)時宇航員的"失重"狀態(tài)，就是由于慣性力與引力相互抵消的結(jié)果。
