八、for的譯法
1. for引導(dǎo)的介詞短語表示目的、用途，在句中作狀語時(shí)，可譯為“為了”、“用于”、 “用來”、“適合于”等。for引導(dǎo)的表示目的的介詞短語常譯成動(dòng)賓結(jié)構(gòu)，但有時(shí)因漢語表達(dá)習(xí)慣的需要，也可以靈活翻譯。如：
* The smelting reduction process can be applied for the production of iron as well as ferroalloys.
熔融還原法可用于生產(chǎn)鐵及鐵合金。
2. for引導(dǎo)的介詞短語作定語時(shí)，?？勺g為漢語的“的”字結(jié)構(gòu)，但因表達(dá)的需要， 介詞for常常省譯。如：
* The temperature coefficient of the resistance is positive for metals and negative for semiconductors.
金屬的電阻溫度系數(shù)是正的，而半導(dǎo)體的是負(fù)的。
3. 表示所涉及的對(duì)象，可譯為“對(duì)于”、“對(duì)……而言（來說)”，或根據(jù)上下文靈活翻譯。如：?
* For the lighter elements the absorption coefficient is approximately proportional1 to the density of the material.
對(duì)較輕的元件來說，吸收系數(shù)與材料的密度大致成正比。
4.表示理由或原因，可譯為“因（為）”、“由于”等。如：
The old hydraulic elevator to the top could not be used in winter for fear the water would freeze.
因怕水結(jié)冰，所以通往塔頂?shù)睦鲜揭簤荷禉C(jī)在冬天不能使用。
5. 表示交換或交替，可譯為“換”、“用……代替”、“代表”等，但也可以根據(jù)需要省譯或靈活掌握。如：
* It is possible to substitute ball bearings for plain bearings in these devices.
在這些裝置中，可用滾珠軸承代替滑動(dòng)軸承。
