五、重復
在英語句子中，如果并列連詞as well as, not only...but also, but, not...but, either...or, both...and, either...nor, rather than等連詞連接兩個并列成分，并只有ー個謂語動詞時，漢譯時為了譯文的修辭需要，可以重復翻譯該謂語動詞。如：
* When the politician or the engineer refers to oil, he almost always means mineral oil, the oil that drives tanks, airplanes and warships, motor-cars and diesel locomotives.
當政治家或工程師一提到油，他們差不多總是指礦物油，也就是可以用來開坦克，開飛機，開軍艦，開汽車，開柴油機車的油。
* Fine-blanking press can be driven both mechanically and hydraulically.
精密沖切機既可機械傳動，也可液壓傳動。
* Fleming proved that penicillin could kill not only staphylococcus bacteria but other kinds also.
弗萊明證實，青霉素不僅能殺死葡萄球菌，而且也能殺死其他種類的細菌。
一個動詞接幾個賓語，這是英譯漢常見的語言現象。但由于詞的搭配習慣不同， 英語中的一個動詞在漢語中往往因賓語的不同而譯成多個動詞。這時動詞的重復要進行具體處理，即符合漢語的詞的搭配習慣。如：
* Increasingly sophisticated computer-controlled robots are entering industry to cut down production costs, time, and labor requirements.
日益完善的由計算機控制的機器人正在進入工業(yè)領域，用來降低生產成本，縮短生產時間，并且減少對勞動力的需求。
