may和might可用在（so) that或in order that后的目的狀語從句中，這時(shí)may表示現(xiàn)在時(shí)或?qū)頃r(shí)，might表示過去時(shí)，有時(shí)可以省譯may或might，但是翻譯時(shí)要把目的概念譯出來。如：
* A rocket must attain a speed of about five miles per second so that it may put a satellite in orbit.

* The plant requires nitrogen in order that they may make proteins.
植物需要氮以便制造蛋白質(zhì)。

高級(jí)語言程序輸入計(jì)算機(jī)之后，編譯程序就把它譯成機(jī)器代碼，以便計(jì)算機(jī)執(zhí)行。

may和might可用在讓步狀語從句中，翻譯時(shí)要把讓步概念譯出來。如：
