It will be like poking a straw up a tiger's nostril. I hope you won't be offended，but I'm afraid I daren't approach her about this....，

例3與例4的霍澤本以metaphor的形式保留了原文的借喻辭格，以及具體的喻體形象，比楊譯更忠實(shí)于原文的語義和修辭。例5 是連用借喻的情形。邢夫人要鳳姐幫忙向賈母討鴛鴦給賈赦作小老婆，鳳姐用“釘子”喻賈母，用“拿草棍兒戳老虎的鼻子眼兒去”比喻邢夫人不顧及賈母的威風(fēng)，以及“老太太離了鴛鴦，飯也吃不下去的，那里就舍得了”的事實(shí)。楊霍兩人對(duì)第二個(gè)借喻的翻譯同樣表現(xiàn)了對(duì)原文語義與修辭的忠實(shí)；而對(duì)于“釘子”這一喻體，霍譯本避而不譯，楊譯 本將“碰釘子”（to bump one’s head against a nail)變成“撞南墻”（run my head against a brick wall)，是對(duì)原文喻體形象的隨意篡改。

由此可見，借喻的翻譯是否成功，與前文通過對(duì)明喻和暗喻的譯文進(jìn)行分析比較后所得出的結(jié)論基本上是一致的。

相對(duì)而言，兩位譯者對(duì)這樣簡(jiǎn)潔有力、富有啟發(fā)性的比喻，更多地采取了直譯法，從而最大程度地保存了原文的修辭特色和意境。這一點(diǎn)可以通過下面的示例得到進(jìn)一步的證明：

6)他三人如此一理，更覺比鳳姐兒當(dāng)差時(shí)倒更謹(jǐn)慎了些。因而里外下人都暗中抱怨說：“剛剛的倒了一個(gè)‘巡海夜叉’，又添了三個(gè)‘鎮(zhèn)山太歲’，越性連夜里偷著吃酒頑的工夫都沒了。”（第五十五回）

楊譯：

霍譯：

Working together in this way they soon came to feel that they had evolved a system of supervision more careful even than Xi-feng's — a view amply borne out by the grumbles of the domestics themselves：
