【說明】although引導(dǎo)的讓步狀語從句，漢譯時一般放在主句之前。
【譯文】經(jīng)過嚴(yán)格的臨床對照試驗，高血壓的藥物治療對于心肌梗死的效果如何雖然還未能確定、但它卻使得該病的發(fā)病率及死亡率都下降了。
例六： The diagnosis of rheumatic fever in the past may be suggested, as a result of careful questioning even in the absence of“typical”chorea or acute migratory joint pains as indicated in the section on Rheumatic Fever.
【說明】這是一個簡單句，它把結(jié)果講在前面。然后，再說明什么條件造成此結(jié)果。這顯然與漢語的表達(dá)習(xí)慣相反，因此最好采用逆序譯法；但as a result of careful questioning 及even in the absence of "typical" chorea or acute migratory joint pains as indicated in the section on Rheumatic Fever 兩個短語需要轉(zhuǎn)換為短句。
【譯文】即使沒有“風(fēng)濕熱”一節(jié)中所指出的“典型”舞蹈病或急性游走性關(guān)節(jié)痛癥狀，但經(jīng)仔細(xì)詢問病史，仍有可能對過去的風(fēng)濕熱作出診斷。
3. 分譯法
在英語長句中，有時主句與從句或主句與各種修飾語之間的關(guān)系并不十分密切，各分句、從句、短語等具有相對的獨(dú)立性，翻譯時可以按照漢語少用長句的習(xí)慣，將原句化整為零,譯成幾個并列的短句。為使譯文連貫，還可以適當(dāng)增加連接詞。
例七： To determine the incidence of pleuropericardial thickening about the heart in our general hospital population, 60 patients, 15 in each decade from ages 48. with clinically normal hearts as far as could be determined by history, physical examination, ECG evaluation,and chest roentgenograms, were cineflorographed.
【說明】此句的難點(diǎn)在于修飾主語60 patients的定語15 in each decade from ages 48，with clinically normal hearts as far as could be determined by history, physical examinaiion. ECG evaluation, and chest roentgenograms。此部分不但特長而且結(jié)構(gòu)復(fù)雜，不便譯為定語，可轉(zhuǎn)譯為句子來表達(dá)一個敘述層次。
【譯文】為了測定我們醫(yī)院一般住院病人中心臟周圍胸膜、心包膜增厚的發(fā)病率，對60名患者進(jìn)行了 X線熒光照相檢查。這陽名患者，從48歲開始，每10歲為一組，每組15名，都是根據(jù)病史、體檢、心電圖及X線胸片等確定為臨床上心臟正常者。
