由于英語和漢語的句子結(jié)構(gòu)和表達方式不同，英譯漢時，除了詞類的轉(zhuǎn)譯外，有時還需要轉(zhuǎn)譯句子成分。這就是科技英語翻譯常用的方法。下面我們介紹一下，賓語等轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語的情況。
（一） 賓語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語
英語中，有些及物動詞 (have, offer, produce , exhibit，take，carry, provide，turn out，…)的賓語，行時可轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語，原句中的上語通常譯成這個主語的定語，因為二者的關(guān)系緊密。例如：
1 ) As a working constant the PV factor has doubtful validity.
作為工作常數(shù)，PV值的正確性令人懷疑。
2) Copper, which is used so widely for carrying electricity , offers very little instance.
銅的電阻很小，因此我們廣泛用銅輸電。
3) Hot-set systems produce higher strengths than cold set systems.
熱固系統(tǒng)的強度比冷固系統(tǒng)高。
（二）表語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語
當(dāng)句中的表語是用名詞、 形容詞、代詞等表示時，可把表語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語。例如：
4) Of all the metals the best conductors are silver, gold and copper.
金、銀、銅是金屬中最好的導(dǎo)體。
5) Two widely used alloys of copper are brass and bronze.
黃銅和青銅是兩種廣泛使用的銅合金。
6) Rubber is a better dielectric but a poorer insulator than air.
橡膠的介電性比空氣好，似絕緣性比空氣差。
（三）謂語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語
當(dāng)英語的謂語動詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的名詞時，常常發(fā)生謂語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語主語的情況。有時原句中的主語通常譯成主語的定語。例如：
7) People weigh less on the moon because the moon's force of gravity is less than that of the earth.
人在月球上的重量要輕些，因為月球的重力比地球的重力要小些。
8) An electric current varies directly as the electromotive force and inversely as the resistance.
電流的變化與電動勢成正比，與電阻成反比。
（四）定語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語
為了語言上前后連貫，在某些句子中可把英語的定語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語。例如：
9) As has been said before, there are three states of matter.
如前所述，物質(zhì)有三態(tài)。
10) Lot of resources in our country have not been exploited.
我國有許多資源尚未開發(fā)。
（五）狀語轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語
當(dāng)英語的副詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的名詞時，常常發(fā)生狀語轉(zhuǎn)譯成主語的情況。例如：
11 ) Oxygen is one of the important elements in the physical world, it is very active chemically.
氧是物質(zhì)世界的重要元素之一，它的化學(xué)反應(yīng)很強。
12)The image must be dimensionaily correct.
圖形的尺寸必須正確。
各種由“介詞+名詞”構(gòu)成的介詞短語在句中作狀語時，經(jīng)常轉(zhuǎn)譯成漢語的主語。轉(zhuǎn)譯后，該介詞的詞義有時保留，有時省略。例如：
13) There is a milling machine, two drilling machines and some other machine tools in our workshop,
我們車間有一臺銑床、兩臺鉆床和一些其它機床。
14) The same signs and symbols of mathematics are used throughout the world.
全世界都使用同樣的數(shù)學(xué)符號。
15) This shows that air is necessary for burning,
這就證明，燃燒需要空氣。
