counsel為“顧問律師”，在英國多指為沙律師提供意見或建議的巴律師，有時(shí)也指成為王室法律顧問的“訟務(wù)律師”，即 Queen's (或King's) Counsel；在美國，多指為公司或政府擔(dān)當(dāng)法律顧問的律師，如in-house counsel。counselor在英國已經(jīng)被廢棄，其在愛爾蘭和美國等地有時(shí)仍在使用，基本等同counsel， 但比counsel正式。主要是指提供法律咨詢、處理各種法律事務(wù)，出庭進(jìn)行訴、辯等的法律代理人，也應(yīng)譯為“顧問律師”[5]。

conveyancer主要指從事不動(dòng)產(chǎn)轉(zhuǎn)讓事務(wù)的專門律師，故為“不動(dòng)產(chǎn)轉(zhuǎn)讓律師”。在英國，“訟務(wù)律師”和“事務(wù)律師”均可從事(a Lawyer who specializes in real-estate transactions. [6] )。

advocate 為“出庭律師” （a lawyer who works and argues in support of another's cause, esp. in court[7])。此外，蘇格蘭的“訟務(wù)律師”也被稱為advocate，而蘇格蘭的“事務(wù)律師”則被稱為 law agent[8] 。

proctor現(xiàn)指宗教法院的教堂的辯護(hù)律師或宗教事務(wù)律師 (an advocate of a religious house，one who represents a religious society in its legal affairs)，其也稱為 procurator”[9] 。
