1. other的譯法
other表示“(兩個(gè)中的）另ー個(gè)或另ー些”，相當(dāng)于名詞或形容詞，在句子中作主語、賓語、定語等。相當(dāng)于名詞時(shí)，有復(fù)數(shù)形式others。
(1) other作定語的譯法
other作定語時(shí)，常與復(fù)數(shù)名詞連用，可譯為“其他”。如：
* These compressors have proved themselves useful in a variety of ways in installations where large volumes of air or other gases are compressed.
這些壓縮機(jī)對(duì)壓縮大容量空氣或其他氣體的設(shè)備來說，在許多方面證明是實(shí)用的。
* He has proved time and time again that the radiation is different from all other known radiations.
他已一再證明這種輻射和其他任何已知的輻射都不一樣。
(2) other作主語或賓語的譯法
other作主語或作賓語時(shí)，單數(shù)之前常用定冠詞the，表示兩個(gè)中的另ー個(gè)，可譯為“另一”。復(fù)數(shù)之前一般不加定冠詞the，常譯為“另ー些”。如：
* If one generator is out of order, the other will produce electricity instead.
如果一臺(tái)發(fā)電機(jī)發(fā)生故障，另一臺(tái)便代替它發(fā)電。
* Some oil wells produce nothing but salt water, while others always remain dry.
有些油井只產(chǎn)鹽水，而另ー些油井卻總是干的。
