兩術(shù)語均為“公司法”。但其用法有一些差別。一般說來， companies act用于指立法機(jī)關(guān)制定的一部具體法規(guī)[1 ] ，如英國(guó)的 《聯(lián)合王國(guó)公司法》（Companies Act of UK)等，此時(shí)companies 為復(fù)數(shù)形式。而company law則用于泛指某國(guó)或某管轄區(qū)的所有有關(guān)公司法的法規(guī)、條例、慣例、案例等[2](參見act與law的 用法區(qū)別），此時(shí)company為單數(shù)形式。
美國(guó)的公司法中的“公司” 一詞有時(shí)也用corporation來表示（更多時(shí)候用corporate)，但其規(guī)則也如上。具體法規(guī)多用 corporations act 表示 (美國(guó)歷史上曾有過一部 Corporation Act, 但它卻與公司法毫不相干，其是美國(guó)歷史上，即1661年的一部有關(guān)宣誓效忠的法規(guī)[3])，如《加利福尼亞州公司法》（Corporations Act of California) , 此時(shí)corporation習(xí)慣用復(fù)數(shù)形式；統(tǒng)稱時(shí)則為 corporation law (或 corporate law)，此時(shí)corporation 習(xí)慣用單數(shù)形式。
